JASON SINGH - EXTINCTION SONGS AT KEW GARDENS

Project Film

As part of 'The Secret World of Plants' programme at Kew Gardens, Sound artist, beatboxer and composer Jason Singh takes over the Temperate House with a fascinating look at ‘plants as composer’ in a new sound installation. Environmental factors such as light, sound and temperature all provide naturally occurring ‘biodata’ generated from plants. It is this biodata that Jason uses to create a musical score, using technology to record the plants' 'voice' as a beautifully melancholic soundtrack.

This short documentary was co-commissioned by the artist and Kew Gardens.

PHOEBE BOSWELL - HERE AT NEW ART EXCHANGE

Exhibition Overview Film

Award-winning artist, Phoebe Boswell presents her exhibition ‘Here’ at New Art Exchange, Nottingham. The exhibition brings together new and existing works some of which have never been shown before in the UK.

Boswell's work explores what it means to belong and to be free. Owing to a personal history rooted in colonial traces and contradictory legacies - upheavals, dualities, geographies, kinships, liberations, silences, and shifts of migration - Phoebe describes her work as a navigation of the space between, anchored to what she refers to as a "restless state of diasporic consciousness."

THE ART OF WORKING (INTERNATIONALLY) - RYAN BOULTBEE

Artist Documentary Series

'The Art of Working (Internationally)' is a series of short documentary films featuring interviews and work from three UK artists. The interviews focus on the influence and impact of having international experiences either through festivals, exhibitions, performances or residencies.

This film features Ryan Boultbee. Ryan is a visual artist who asks us to look again at the spaces and places we occupy. His current work sits between art and architecture; it adds to, takes from and alters everyday spaces. He hopes his artwork will make the viewer more aware of the structures they live in - and how easily they can be re-built and re-imagined.

This documentary series was commissioned by UK New Artists.

MATT WOODHAM - SENSING SYSTEMS AT BONINGTON GALLERY

Exhibition Overview Film

Matt Woodham is an artist, designer and technologist whose practice evades disciplinary definition. After specialising in visual neuroscience during his degree, he channelled his skills and interests into generating auditory and visual experiences – including music videos, live visuals for club nights, light installations, and experimental websites. For Sensing Systems, Woodham’s debut solo exhibition, the gallery will be filled with a composition of connected installations, positioning visitors within a system of light, sound and motion. Visual and kinetic events will be sequenced by a central processing unit which distributes signals around the room. The audience can interact with the system, which alongside random data sources and a sensitivity to initial conditions, will create a unique experience for each viewer.

This exhibition overview was commissioned by Bonington Gallery.
